Here is what I have been taking for about a month:

-Ashwagandha (500mg stadardized to 5%) 2 times daily
-L-Theanine (200 mg) 1-2 times daily
-Fish Oil (240 mg DHA, 360 mg EPA) 2 times daily
-Flax Seed Oil (1000 mg) 1 time daily

Improvements:

-Frequently in a relaxed mood.
-Significant decrease in social anxiety.
-Significant suppression of angry/aggitated mood swings (this was a big problems for me)
-Generally less paranoia in public, less problems leaving the house.
-Less likely to drift into negative, repetative, obsessisive thinking.

I still have a lot of mental health problems but this is a big improvement for me. Only problem is that I started taking everything almost at the same time, so it is going to be difficult to see what is actually doing what. I'm pretty sure most of the improvement is do to the fish oil and the ashwagandha.

I agree wholeheartedly since that is what all the journals are based upon... consider bumping it up to 6 grams of epa/dha perhaps more. Take it 15 minutes before fatty big meals and make sure you are pharamaceutical grade fish oil like the omega-3 brand at trader joes and if you are really paranoid and/or rich take nordic naturals, the cleanest in the industry. Heavy metals gravitate towards oil in fish.

I take 15-20 grams a day of omega 3 fish oil so that is about 6-11 grams of EPA/DHA for weight control and neurological reasons, since twinpeaks and bodybuilders recommend it. I will get blood tests to confirm my blood is not too thin, since I don't know jack about how that affects things.

Perhaps Off topic: green tea promotes the pain killing properties of fish oil more as in a recent post that I don't understand. It is the polyphenols in it... I am not sure if that also means that it translates to the more fish oil to the brain... or what exactly the journal entails...

However, you may want to substitute theanine for green tea that has theanine already in it. It also has small amounts of cafeine too. 30mgs if I remember correctly and that is about an 1/8 of a starbucks grande mocha.

I would look for a reputable high poster for confirmation and not me.

But Ashwaganda has a tranquilizing affect so should be taken when you are winding down.

But congratulations.

I've also felt great benefits from Ashwagandha, especially when combined with fish oil.

Regarding the fish oil dosages, one should be careful not to combine high doses of EPA/DHA with other bloodthinners and/or vasodialators. This would include things like vinpocetine, gingko biloba, aspirin, garlic extract, etc. Getting routine blood tests done is an excellent idea when taking multiple supplements, especially concerning hepatic enzyme levels.

I'm going to take your advise and step it up to 5 grams of fish oil per day. My bottle of fish oil doesn't say whether it was screened for heavy metals or not, that kinda worries me. Solgar is supposed to be a good company though.

Will it take a long time to notice a difference?

Mainly I have noticed decreased levels of anxiety, especially when taken first thing in the morning. Ashwagandha has been shown in one study to be as effective as lorazepam in decreasing anxiety, mainly by decreasing brain levels of tribulin (Phytomedicine. 2000 Dec; 7(6): 463-9). I am currently combining it with Rhodiola rosea in order to maximize the anxiety and stress reducing effects, which seems to be working quite nicely.

I gotta agree that the anxiety reducing effects are very noticable. I've tried chamomile and valerian root in the past and they don't even come close.

Since you are already on a protocol using fishoil I would thin you will realize the benefits of increasing the dose to a more effective range in a short period of time.

Since I take low dose aspirin every day, I try to keep fish oil within a moderate range. Also, when I combined Gingko Biloba with fish oil I started to get sporadic nose bleeds. A similar situation arose when I combined Gingko with Vinpocetine a while ago, which I wrote about on this board. Some people may differ, but I find it generally good rule of thumb to not combine too many blood thinning and/or vasodialating substances.

Have you noticed any sexual side-effects from the ashwagandha
