I am using Modafinil now. I am wondering if it is REALLY that much safer than Adrafinil or if the whole liver enzyme thing is something blown way out of proportion for marketing purposes. Obviously, Adrafinil is much cheaper.

To those who have used both: do you notice a difference? Is one superior to the other?

Also, if anyone is interested in having the Sun Pharma version of Modafinil analyzed, perhaps any of us who are interested could share the cost of having it tested. $1 per 200mg pill vs. $8 for Provigil is too good to pass up, but there seems to be some concern about whether or not Sun Pharma's "Modalert" is the real deal. I ordered some and will compare it to Provigil and post my subjective opinion, but would still really like to have it privately analyzed.

I just recieved some modalert from sun pharma today and took 100mg.

Yesterday I rode a standup jet ski for about 4 hours and afterwards I was dead tired and burnt to hell. I slept about 5 hours last night and went fishing this morning. Came back very tired and slept about an hour until my present arrived.

Under the circumstances I should be asleep right now but I am quite awake. I haven't taken adrafinil or anything similar to compare but I can definatley say that I am feeling something and that there is at least something in the sun pharma brand.

Also, I've noticed many differing reports about modafinil across brands so maybe its the variability in individual response that is leading to claims of uinderdosing and that modalert contains some other stimulant.

The Sun Pharma website lists this in their formulary:

Modalert 100mg Tablets
Each film coated extended release tablet contains:Modafinil 100 mg
5 strips of 10 tablets
01x10

Modalert 200mg Tablets
Each film coated extended release tablet contains:Modafinil 200 mg
5 strips of 10 tablets
01x10

The Cephalon prescribing info booklet describes their tablets as this:

PROVIGIL® (modafinil) Tablets
100 mg Each capsule-shaped, white, uncoated tablet is debossed with “PROVIGIL” on one side and “100 MG” on the other.
NDC 63459-101-01 – Bottles of 100
200 mg Each capsule-shaped, white, scored, uncoated tablet is debossed with “PROVIGIL” on one side and “200 MG” on
the other.
NDC 63459-201-01 – Bottles of 100

The Cephalon/Provigil makes no mention of "extended-release" while the Sun/Modalert does. Also, Cephalon/provigil tablets are "uncoated" while Sun/Modalert's are "film-coated".

These qualities may explain why users notice a difference when switching brands. Perhaps crushing the Sun tablets before ingestion would increase the rate at which they enter the bloodstream. Since modafinil has a half life in the bloodstream of something like 15hrs, I don't see why Sun chose to make an "extended-release" tablet.

Don't these drugs act on alpha-1 adrenoreceptors? Or am I mistaken?

And aren't those the same receptors that psuedoephedrine acts on?

The difference is that they ONLY act on alpha-1 adrenoreceptors; it's isolation is what provides the wakefulness without jitteriness or feelings of overstimulation (unlike, for example, amphetamines).

Yeah. But I wonder how the effects of psuedoephedrine would differ from adrafinil/modafinil since they both act on the same receptor.

I also wonder if it would be pointless to take them together. I currently take psuedoephedrine for allergies.

Half-life isn't always the same as therapeutic life. That said, I'm generally not fond of extended release formulations.

BTW, where do y'all get your modafinil/adrafinil? I'd like some recommendations on fast, reliable service and a good price.

Exitscratch, My modalert tabs say they are uncoated.

Sir Savage, I ordered from healthpluspharmacy on the 14th and got the stuff today. It was $64 including shipping

also after dosing today around noon I felt great for several hours and had a good workout. Physically now I am a little worn out (however not more than I would expect to be considering) and I have been wide awake since noon which is somewhat unusual.

I can't say for sure but based on others experiences I'd be willing to bet that at least my modalert contains modafinil.

Isn't pseudoephedrine supposed to make you drowsy?

HHMMM There is at least one study about modafinil and histimane levels in certain brain regions and lots of other stuff about histamines role in wakefullness/ alertness/ whatever you call it.

tommorow I will take 200mg and maybe I won't be too lazy to look up those studies. lol

You are thinking of PPA (active ingredient in the now discountinued dexatrim) , not psuedoephedrine.

I ordered 100X100mg (Modalert) Modafinil tabs from healthpluspharmacy.com fro $64.00 free ship. These are Sun Pharma
They took about 20 days to arrive.
I have never tried adrafinil or any other brand of modafinl.
They definitely have a stimulating effect, reminiscent of amphetamine but only slightly.
"I have more ideas but the days are too short and go by so fast"
This phrase describes how it makes me feel..
100mg at a time is enough for me, twice a day at best. (150lbs).
Hypnoracetam mentioned in another post a "coldness", not physically but emotionally.
I understand what he meant, kind of just a robotic stimulation, rather than euphoric.
I feel a kind of tense or wound tightly after being on it for a few days and sleep does not feel as deep.
The effects for me almost seem stronger after a few consecutive days of use.
I got some headaches and weird stomach discomfort, though this may have been due to poor food choices...
It keeps me moving and this keeps me from being depressed about lack of productivity. I work at home all day and it's easy to get sidetracked or lazy.
I like it, but am not sure if it's something I should be taking everyday.
If you try stop drinking coffee and take this instead, it's kind of weird, I still needed a little coffee to feel normal.
I would rather take this than any antidepressant..although it's stimulating it also mellows me out in a weird way..
my 2, 3 and 4 cents..
Anyone ever take AMP with modafinil? I just got some

I also have noticed its effects on sleep. I have not been sleepy at all since i started taking it and yet it is only slightly more difficult to fall asleep. I have also noticed that when I wake up I feel like it is later than it really is. Today I went to bed at 1am and woke at 8am but felt like it was much later. I think im just not used to it shortening my sleep.

Also, the last few days I have had great workouts. It seems to help alot in lowereing percieved effort.
I also took 12mg of ephedrine and did heavy squats friday. Adding ephedrine wasn't anything special.

Modafinil in Provigil form has occasionally exacerbated social anxiety for me.

Just an update on my drug use..
I have taken modalert for the last few days and I have been having this weird stomach pain. Kind of like indigestion or something. Like I want to burp, but can't.
I'm not sure if it is reacting with some of the nootropics I have been taking, the coffee I drink or what.
The sensation comes later, four hours or more after taking 100-200mg, and persists into the late afternoon. Taking it before or after eating makes no difference.
I have been eating well, with plenty of fiber etc.
ALCAR,Piracetam,Alpha-GPC,Taurine,ALA.. these are my usual daily supps lately. I took a day off of these and took modalert only, and still had this problem..

Yesterday it was to the point that the discomfort was just making me feel weak and distracted.
I'm going to lay off for a while, as it does seem like it is a cumulative problem that gets worse if I take it several days in a row.
I did read that this is one of the less common side effects, too bad for me. I have never heard this complaint before..
I wish I understood why this drug does this...
